Determination of sound transfer coefficient and noise insulation capability of boron added cellulosic mixture
    (2007) Çö?ürcü M.T.; Şahinkaya S.; Donduren M.S.; Do?an S.; Özdemir C.
Noise is an important factor affecting human health psychologically due to lack of performance, hearing failures, decreases in heart beats, physiologically due to higher brain liquid pressure and sociologically due to lack of communication. Especially in closed working areas, it has significant negative effects on the performance. Noise control in closed working areas is generally done with boron added cellulosic mixture sprayed on the structure or surfaces with required thicknesses. In this study, noise was generated with central frequencies of 31.5, 63, 125, 250, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000 and 16000 Hz by using signal generator, which can be heard by human ear at medium or top levels. The generated noises occurred at various frequencies with various noise levels that were later calculated as 100 dB. However, ? values (sound transfer coefficient) for the measured absolute values and the NRCs (Noise Reduction Coefficient) for 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000 Hz frequencies, the most sensitive ones for human ear, were calculated. The material used in the study was so efficient for high frequencies. The NRC and ? value were respectively obtained as 0.34 and 0.38 for 3 cm thickness, 0.31 and 0.72 for 5 cm thickness.

Industrial heavy metal pollution and hazardous effects on ecology: Waste management perspective
    (2006) Argun M.E.; Dursun S.; Özdemir C.; Karataş M.
In this article, pollution of ecological systems with heavy metals and their hazardous effects were investigated as a view of waste management. Several industries from mining to electroplating produce large volumes of wastewater containing heavy metals. These wastewater cause accumulation of heavy metals through ecological circle in soil, plants and animals which directly enter human food chains presenting a high hazardous effect on consumers. They may cause severe damage of the kidney, reproductive system, liver, brain and central nervous system. Some of these heavy metals are Cd+2, Cu+2, Ni+2, Cr+6, Pb+2, Zn+2, As+2, and Hg+2. They also inhibit the biological treatment systems. These pollutants are special requirement for the disposal procedure. In this context heavy metal treatment processes have been also examined in this article. © 2006. International Scientific Conference SGEM.

Investigation of ecotoxicological effects of 2,4-D acid herbicide on the ecosystem
    (2011) Özdemir C.; Kalipci E.; Öztas H.
2,4-D Acid (Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid) is a herbicide which is commonly used for agricultural protection in our country. However, the scope of environmental and ecological problems that 2,4-D acid may cause is not known in detail. The ecotoxic studies showed that the usage of 2,4-D causes soft tissue sarcomas in human beings, increase in neoplastic variations in organs such as stomach, pancreas, lung, skin and urinary bladder, decrease in the number of sperms in males and increase in the risk prostate cancer. Moreover, the studies showed that 2,4-D is directly or indirectly effective on all organisms present in aquatic environment such as birds, insects, fish and algae by mixing into the air, soil and water and has some toxic effects on ecosystem depending on this. For this reason, it's very important to raise awareness of public about the unawareness usage of 2,4-D resulting in ecologic risk factors. It seems as an obligatory to raise awareness of public about the usage of this pesticide and to bring new arrangements about its usage in our country. © IDOSI Publications, 2011.

Morphology and anatomy of endemic Thermopsis Turcica Kit Tan, Vural & Küçüködük
    (Bangladesh Botanical Society, 2008) Özdemir C.; Dural H.; Ertu?rul K.; Küçüködük M.; Baran P.; Şanda M.A.
Morphology and anatomy of an endemic plant from Turkey, Thermopsis turcica Kit Tan, Vural & Küçüködük, belonging to Fabaceae have been investigated. The species had a perennial rhizome, an erect stem and compound leaves consisting of three leaflets. Morphological and anatomical research findings have been presented by photographs, drawings and tables.
