According to the research findings, it was determined that the total score average of the students' beliefs about mental illness was 51.01±16.17. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the students' marital status, perception of economic status, the longest place of residence, mother and father's employment status, father's education level, educational status, and taking courses for mental illnesses and the mean score of the beliefs towards mental illness scale. (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a high level of negative correlation between the students' beliefs about mental illness and the age variable, empathic tendency and social distance level. It was observed that the effective determining factors explained 86.6% (Adjusted R2= 0.826) of the change in the mean score of belief towards mental illness. As a result, the average score of the students' belief in mental illness was below the medium level; On the other hand, it was found that empathic disposition and social distance mean scores were above the medium level and were effective on the mean score of belief in mental illness.
