Antibacterial Activity and Composition of the Essential Oils of Two Endemic Salvia Sp. From Turkey
(Academic Journals, 2010) Akın, Mehtap; Demirci, Betül; Bağcı, Yavuz; Başer, K. Hüsnü Can
Water-distilled essential oils from dried aerial parts of Salvia cryptantha and Salvia heldreichiana (Lamiaceae), endemic in Turkey, were analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Camphor (19.1%), 1,8-cineole (16.4%), borneol (11.9%), viridiflorol (11.5%) and bornyl acetate (2.4%) were found to be the major constituents in the oil of S. cryptantha. The major constituents in the oil of S. heldreichiana were linalool (9.4%), alpha-pinene (5.6%), 1,8-cineole (5.6%), borneol (5.6%), cryptone (5.3%), linalyl acetate (4.9%), alpha-terpineol (4.4%), camphor (3.9%), terpinen-4-ol (3.3%), trans-linalool oxide (Furanoid) (2.9%), trans-verbenol (2.2%), geranyl acetate (2.2%) and cis-linalool oxide (Furanoid) (2.1%). Essential oil of S. heldreichiana exhibited antimicrobial activity using the disc diffusion method against Escherichia coli, Sarcinia lutea and Salmonella typhimurium. The oil of S. cryptantha inhibited the growth of S. lutea.

(Wıley-Blackwell, 2006) Başer, K. Hüsnü Can; Özek, Gülmira; Özek, Temel; Duran, Ahmet
The volatile constituents of the seeds of Centaurea huber-morathii Wagenitz (Asteraceae), obtained by microdistillation, were analysed by GC and GC-MS. Eighty-five constituents were identified in the oil, with octanol (17.8%), hexadecanoic acid (8.0%), p-cymene (4.9%) and caryophyllene oxide (3.3%) as the major components.

Composition of the essential oils of Centaurea sericeae Wagenitz and Centaurea ensiformis P.H. Davis from Turkey
(2010) Köse, Y. Bülent; Altıntaş, Ayhan; Tugay, Osman; Uysal, Tuna; Demirci, Betül; Ertuğrul, Kuddusi; Başer, K. Hüsnü Can
The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from two endemic Centaurea L. species (Asteraceae); Centaurea sericeae Wagenitz and Centaurea ensiformis P.H. Davis from Turkey was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), simultaneously. Caryophyllene oxide (10.6 %), nonacosane (8.6 %) and hexadecanoic acid (7 %) were the main constituents in the oil of C. sericeae and ?-eudesmol (29.8 %), hexadecanoic acid (8 %) and caryophyllene oxide (7.6 %) were the main constituents in the oil of C. ensiformis.

Composition of the Essential Oils of Rhabdosciadium Oligocarpum (Post Ex Boiss.) Hedge Et Lamond and Rhabdosciadium Microcalycinum Hand.-Mazz.
(John Wiley & Sons Ltd, 2006) Başer, K. Hüsnü Can; Özek, Gülmira; Özek, Temel; Duran, Ahmet; Duman, Hayri
The volatile constituents of the oils of Rhabdosciadium oligocarpum (Post ex Boiss.) Hedge et Lamond and Rhabdosciadium microcalycinum Hand.-Mazz. (Umbelliferae) were isolated by hydrodistillation and microdistillation techniques and then analysed by GC and GC-MS. Germacrene D was found to be the main constituent in all the oils obtained.
