Composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Tanacetum cadmeum (Boiss.) heywood subsp orientale grierson
(ALLURED PUBL CORP, 2007) Ozek, Guelmira; Ozek, Ternel; Iscan, Goekalp; Baser, K. Huesnue Can; Hamzaoglu, Ergin; Duran, Ahmet
Water distilled essential oil of aerial parts of Tanacetum cadineum (Boiss.) Heywood subsp. orientale Grierson (Asteraceae) was analyzed by GC and GC/MS methods. Ninety three compounds have been characterized representing 97.8% of the oil. 1,8-Cineole (1.8.9%), p-cymene (15.7%), terpinen-4-ol (14.8%), borneol (9.8%) and gamma-terpinene (3.5%) were found to be the major constituents of the oil. Antimicrobial activity of the oil was tested via micro-dilution broth method. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus epidemidis, Candida albicans were used as the test microorganisms.

Composition of the essential oil of Hippomarathrum cristatum (DC.) boiss.
(ALLURED PUBL CORP, 2007) Oezek, Guelmira; Oezek, Temel; Baser, K. Husnu Can; Hamzaoglu, Ergin; Duran, Ahmet
Water distilled essential oil of Hippomarathrum cristatum (DC.) Boiss. (Umbelliferae) fruits used as a condiment in food products traditionally was analyzed by GC and GC/MS methods. Eighty compounds were characterized representing 91.6% of the oil. Hexadecanoic acid (11.6%), nonacosane (8.0%), germacrene D (6.1%) and myristicin (4.4%) were found to be the major constituents of the oil.

New chromosome counts, karyotype analyses and asymmetry indices in some taxa of genus Senecio L. and related genera Tephroseris (Rchb.) Rchb. and Turanecio Hamzaoglu belong to tribe Senecioneae (Asteraceae) from Turkey
(SPRINGER WIEN, 2014) Altinordu, Fahim; Martin, Esra; Hamzaoglu, Ergin; Cetin, Ozlem
In this study, the somatic chromosome numbers and karyotype analyses were determined for nine taxa that belong to three different genera of Senecioneae tribe. The studied taxa are; Senecio tauricolus V.A. Matthews, Senecio racemosus (M.Bieb.) DC., Senecio paludosus L., Senecio trapezuntinus Boiss., Senecio inops Boiss. & Balansa subsp. inops, Turanecio pandurifolius (K.Koch) Hamzaoglu, Turanecio hypochionaeus (Boiss.) Hamzaoglu, Turanecio eriospermus (DC.) Hamzaoglu, Tephroseris integrifolia (L.) Holub. subsp. aurantiaca (Hoppe ex Willd.) B.Nord. S. tauricolus, S. trapezuntinus, S. inops subsp. inops and T. hypochionaeus taxa are endemic to Turkey. The chromosomal variability in the tribe Senecioneae has observed the existence of four chromosome numbers: 2n = 38, 2n = 40, 2n = 46 and 2n = 80. The chromosome number 2n = 38 is a new record for Turanecio species. All taxa existed karyotypes measured by a set of median to submedian chromosomes and a smaller number of subterminal chromosome pairs. Also their karyotype asymmetry indices (TF %, As K %, Syi, Rec, A, A(1) and A(2)) were calculated. The ideograms and detailed chromosome morphology measurements of the species were performed by the use of image analysis system (Bs200Pro). This is the first account of somatic chromosomes and karyotypes for the studied taxa except for S. paludosus. The research has contributed to the taxonomic revision of the tribe, Senecioneae, in Turkey.

A NEW SPECIES OF CENTAUREA (ASTERACEAE) FROM TURKEY
(MAGNOLIA PRESS, 2016) Uysal, Tuna; Hamzaoglu, Ergin; Ertugrul, Kuddisi; Bozkurt, Meryem
A new species of Centaurea (Asteraceae) from Turkey is described and illustrated. Centaurea nallihanense Uysal & Hamzaoglu occurs on stony slopes of corrupted oak openings in the Province of Ankara in Central Anatolia. It seems to be similar to C. sect. Ptosimopappus but related to the Cheirolepis-Pseudoseridia complex. Diagnostic characters of similar taxa are provided and a comprehensive discussion is held on the basis of molecular and karyological data. The geographical distribution of the new species is mapped. The chromosome number of C. nallihanense, 2n = 2x = 18, counted in root tips, is also reported and illustrated. Its karyotype formula is 6m+3sm. The karyotype of C. nallihanense consists of mainly metacentric chromosomes with the length ranging from 1.113 to 1.771 mu m, and the total haploid chromosome length of 12.909 mu m. Also, the ITS gene region of the new species is amplified and sequenced to compare with the relatives and to identify the taxonomical position of the new species within Centaurea.

Scorzonera coriacea A. Duran & Aksoy (Asteraceae, Cichorieae), a new species from South Anatolia, Turkey
(CONSERVATOIRE ET JARDIN BOTANIQUES VILLE GENEVE, 2011) Duran, Ahmet; Dogan, Bekir; Hamzaoglu, Ergin; Aksoy, Ahmet
DURAN, A., B. DOGAN, E. HAMZAOGLU & A. AKSOY (2011). Scorzonera coriacea A. Duran & Aksoy (Asteraceae, Cichorieae), a new species from South Anatolia, Turkey. Candollea 66: 353-359, In English, English and French abstracts. A new species, Scorzonera coriacea A. Duran & Aksoy (Asteraceae) from Anatolia, Turkey, is described and illustrated. The species grows in open Pines nigra forest and on the serpentine stony slopes of the Kizildag Mountain in the district of Derebucak (Konya province) and in the Kizildag National Park in the district of Sarkikaraagac (Isparta province). Scorzonera coriacea is a very distinct species, and with no obvious allies among other Scorzonera species in Turkey in terms of morphological features. The new species is an endemic confined to the Southern Anatolia. Notes on its ecology, biogeography and its conservation status are also presented. The geographical distribution of the new species is mapped.
