    Consumer perceptions and functional evaluations of cash desk types in the clothing retail context

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to focus on assessing consumer perceptions and functional evaluations of store cash desks (Flat, L- and U-shaped) in the clothing retail context. Design/methodology/approach: To test the assumption that relationships exist between various types of cash desks and consumer perceptions and functional evaluations, a study was devised using digital pictures of three types of cash desks hypothetically located in a large store. Findings: Results based on semantic differential and functional items show that consumers expressed a more positive perception of flat than of L- or U-shaped cash desks. Men evaluated the store cash desks more positively than women overall. Managerial implications are discussed and directions for future research are proposed. Originality/value: This paper reveals a significant relationship between cash desk type and consumer perceptions and functional evaluations of cash desks. The results of the work suggest that retailers and designers may be able to easily make stores more attractive to consumers by installing flat cash desks. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

    Effects on students’ perceptual evaluations of the wall colors used in design studios by the virtual reality method

    In this study, it was aimed to determine the perceived quality of three modeled virtual design studios which have the same characteristics but different colors (warm, cool and neutral) and to determine whether there was a difference between the real space and the evaluations made in the virtual space. Accordingly, it was assumed that the wall coloring of the virtual studio space models that were modeled could affect the perceptions of the students and that virtual space evaluations would be in parallel with real space evaluations. To test the assumption, the study modeled the environments of three design studios with different colors assumed to exist at a design studio of the Selcuk University and students were asked to evaluate these virtual spaces with the aid of virtual reality goggles. As a result, it has been determined that there was no difference between the perceptual evaluations of real and virtual spaces designed with the same features. In addition, according to the spatial scale, it was determined that the cool colored space were perceived as "more roomy" and "more inviting" by the students compared to the warm colored space and that the cool colored space was also evaluated more positively for the social adaptation and individual productivity scales.

    Geleneksel Türk evi donatı elemanlarının restorasyonu ve çağdaş yapılarda yeniden kullanımı: Bir şerbetlik örneği

    Geleneksel Türk evleri, iç mekânları ve donatı elemanlarıyla, geleneksel kültürün vazgeçilemez bir anıtıdır. Ancak Türk evleri ve özellikle ahşap malzemeden yapılan geleneksel donatı elemanları, bakımsızlık, kötü onarımlar ve kullanım dışı kalma gibi sebeplerle zarar görmüş ve yok olmuşlardır. Yok olan bu tasarım özelliklerinin yeni yapılarda yaşatılması geleneksel Türk evi tasarım kültürünün gelecek nesillere aktarılması açısından oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışmada, yerinden sökülen ve uzun süre atıl kalan geleneksel Türk evine ait bir dolabın restorasyonu ve çağdaş bir yapıda yeniden kullanım imkânları üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışılan donatı, uygun olan tekniklerle restore edilmiş ve dolabın yeniden kullanımı sağlanmıştır. Sonuçta geleneksel Türk evi donatı elemanlarının, yeni uygulamalara aktarılabileceği ve çağdaş yapıların geleneksel tasarım anlayışı ile tasarlanarak kültürel sürekliliğin sağlanabileceği vurgulanmıştır.

    Lise Koridor Duvarlarında Kullanılan Renklerin Öğrencilerin Algısal Değerlendirmeleri Üzerindeki Etkileri

    Bu araştırmada, okul koridorlarının iç mekânında kullanılan farklı renklerin (krem, mavi ve yeşil) öğrencilerin algısal performansı üzerindeki etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu maksatla, Ankara'da bulunan İncirli Teknik ve Endüstri Meslek Lisesi koridorları araştırma ortamı olarak seçilmiştir. Öğrencilerin üç farklı renge sahip koridorları 11 sıfat çiftinden oluşan anlamsal farklılaşma ölçeği ile değerlendirmeleri sağlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmiş ve önemli sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır. Buna göre, farklı renklerin kullanıldığı koridorlardan; krem renkli mekânın mavi ve yeşil renkli mekâna oranla daha pozitif algılandığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, okula yeni başlayan öğrencilerin üst sınıflarda okuyan öğrencilere oranla mekân algılamalarında daha olumlu yaklaşıma sahip oldukları görülmektedir. Elde edilen verilerin, eğitim yapılarının, öğrencileri tarafından algılanan mekânsal imajının pekiştirilmesine katkı sağlayacağı ve okulları ile ilgili memnuniyetlerinin arttırılmasında kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir
