COMBINING ABILITY OF BEAN GENOTYPES ESTIMATED BY LINE x TESTER ANALYSIS UNDER HIGHLY-CALCAREOUS SOILS
    (PAKISTAN AGRICULTURAL SCIENTISTS FORUM, 2014) Ceyhan, E.; Kahraman, A.; Avci, M. A.; Dalgic, H.
Line x Tester analysis involving six lines (local populations viz., PV1, PV2, PV3, PV4, PV5 and PV6) and three testers (cultivars viz., Sehirali 90, Akman 98 and Yunus 90) of dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was conducted to determine combining ability of seed yield and its related traits under highly calcareous soils. Significant differences of linextester interaction was observed for all characters under the study indicating the prevalence of non-additive variance. Similarly, less than one value of sigma(2)(gca) / sigma(2)(sca) ratio for all traits indicated predominance of non-additive gene effects. Significant general and specific combining ability (GCA and SCA) effects were also noted in all the traits. Among the parents, PV5 (Line) and Akman 98 (Tester) were found to be good general combiners for seed yield and yield components. The most promising specific combinations for yield and other traits were PV3 x Akman 98, PV2xYunus 90, PV6xSehirali 90 and PV5xYunus 90. These crosses had significant estimates of SCA effects suggesting predominance of non-additive gene action for these traits under highly-calcareous soils. The average heterosis was 53.61 % for seed yield. This study has shown that in order to improve seed yield and yield components in dry bean under highly calcareous soils, the selection of parents should be based on per se performance as well as combining ability.

Some chemical properties, mineral content and amino acid composition of cowpeas (Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi)
(WAGENINGEN ACADEMIC PUBLISHERS, 2016) Harmankaya, Mustafa; Ceyhan, E.; Celik, A. S.; Sert, H.; Kahraman, A.; Özcan, Mehmet Musa
Chemical properties, mineral content and amino acid composition of three cowpea genotypes (Karagoz, Samandag and Sarikiz) were determined. Almost all investigated characteristics (except for potassium, sulphur, copper, proline, and sarcosine) were revealed to be statistically important. Chemical properties of cowpeas showed that protein ranged from 27.6 to 30.1%, carbohydrate 56.3-60.0%, ash 3.8-4.2%, fat 2.0-2.3% and moisture 5.9-7.2%. The amounts of potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulphur, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese and copper were adequate to meet macronutrient and micronutrient demand in human diets. The ratios of 22 amino acids showed that methionine, tryptophan and tyrosine amino acids were limiting components. According to the results, the cowpea genotypes were rich in the essential amino acids and chemical composition.

Stability Analysis on Seed Yield and Its Components in Peas
(SCIENTIFIC ISSUES NATL CENTRE AGRARIAN SCIENCES, 2012) Ceyhan, E.; Kahraman, A.; Ateş, M. K.; Karadaş, S.
Two cultivars and seven of newly developed pea lines were tested to determine the genotypic variability, heritability, adaptation and stable ability of individual lines for seed yield and yield components at Experiment Field of the Selcuk University, Konya, Turkey. The genotypes were evaluated in three years (2007, 2008 and 2009). Results from the combined analysis of variance indicated that there were significant differences between years and genotypes for the characters. The stability parameters were subjected to regression to determinate regression coefficient and deviations values. Differences in the response of environment were found between genotypes for all traits. The genotypes PS57 and PS53-1 were well adapted to seed yield in good environments. The best-adapted genotypes for seed yield in various environments were PS29-1, PS49, PS100 and PS48 lines. The common parts of the examined genotypes were exhibited specific adaptation ability to different environment; therefore, they represented a target to developing individual plant material for the purpose of breeding programs.
