Öğe Age and gender related changes in hematological parameters of thoroughbred foals(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2013) Uluisik, D.; Keskin, E.; Ozaydin, T.Hematological and biochemical profiles commonly are required in equine medicine. We studied hematological parameters including red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (PCV), differential leukocyte counts, mean cell volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) in thoroughbred foals at different ages and for both sexes. Sixty healthy thoroughbred foals, 1 day, 3 days and 1 year old were used. Each age group consisted of 10 male and 10 female animals. We found significant differences related to age in RBC values of females, PCV, MCV values of males, WBC, neutrophil percentages, lymphocyte percentages, monocyte percentages of females, and eosinophil percentages and basophil percentages. Significant differences related to gender were found only with regard to PCV at 1 year and WBC at 1 day. The hematological parameters of thoroughbred foals up to one year old may be useful for evaluating and monitoring the health of these animals.Öğe Akut Hemoraji?k Şok Oluşturulan Köpekleri?n Sağaltımında Kan ile % 7.5 NaCl/% 6 Dextran 70 Kombi?nasyonu Uygulamalarının Etki?leri(Selçuk Üniversitesi, 1999) Arıcan, M.; Keskin, E.; Yiğitarslan, K.; Ceylan, C.In this study, effects of small volumes of blood and 7.5% NaCV 6 % dextran administrations in dogs with induced haemorrahagic shocks induced experimentally were investigated. For this purpose totally 12 dogs were used as a matenal. The dogs were divided into 2 groups each of 6 dogs. Haemorrhagic shock was performed experimentally by taking arterial blood via cut down catheters. By this way the mean arterial pressure was reduced to 40 ±5 mmHg. At the end of the hypotensive period, the dogs of the group 1 and 2 were treated by bolus injection of 5ml/ kg of blood and 75% NaCV 6 % dextran respectively. The blood samples for the determination of blood gases analy ses were taken before the experiment, at the end of hypotensive period and after treatment at 30th, 60th and 90th mi nutes and other parameters (heart rate, blood pressure, respiration rate and body temperature) were recorded. In the study, Group 1 (treated by bolus injection of blood), after the bolus injection, blood pressure at 30th, 60th and 90th mins were increased compare to the hipotensive period, but, this increased was only important at the 90th min (p < 0.05) . On the other hand, these increased were important at the 30th, 60th and 90th minutes in group 2 Sig- nificantly decreased levels of arterial HC O^ . 2 and pC*O_{2} were found (p < 0.05) , The decreased levels of hematocrit values were significant compared to the hipotensive period in group 2 (p < 0.05) After treatment of hypertonic fluid in group 2. plasma Na levels were significantly increased compared to the hipotensive period. Consideration in the study that particularly small volumes of 7.5 % NaCl 6% Dextran administration in case of haemorrahagic shock, can make advantages.Öğe Effect of Sorted Anions on the Acid-Base Balance and Growing in Japanese Quails(1997) Durgun, Z.; Keskin, E.; Kocabatmaz, M.; Keçeci, T.In the study, sixty, 3 weeks old Japanese quail chicks were used and divided equally to four groups. The control groups (I) were fed basal diet and group II, III, IV were fed diet containing 120 meq/kg NaHCO3, CaSO4 and CaHPO4, respectively. Blood samples were taken for measurement of pH, pCO2, HCO3- and certain electrolytes levels at 0.th. 5.th. and 10.th. days and all chicks were weighed and feed intake was calculated at 0.th and 10.th. days of experimental period. Bicarbonate evidently increased blood pH, pCO2, HCO3- and plasma Na values and decreased plasma K values whereas sulfate consistently depressed blood pH, pCO2, HCO3- and increased plasma K and Ca levels. CaHPO4 did not affect acid-base balance as much as CaSO4. In the study, the highest feed intake and the lowest weight gain were determined in control group although there were no striking differences among the other groups in respect of weight gain and feed intake.Öğe The Effects of Acetylsalicylic Acid on the Phagocytic Function of Bovine Neutrophils in Vitro(ECOLE NATIONAL VET TOULOUSE, 1998) Baş, A. L.; Traş, B.; Elmas, M.; Keskin, E.; Yazar, E.Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), a cyclooxygenase inhibitor, has been used for its analgesic and antiinflammatory properties. Its stimulating effect on the immune system has recently been described. In the present study, the effect of ASA on phagocytic and microbicidal activity was investigated in vitro at the concentrations of 50, 100, 150, 250 and 500 mu g/ml in the peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNL) of twelve healthy Holstein heifers. The functions of PMNL were evaluated with flourescent microscopy using flourochrome dye, acridine orange. In this study, all the results compared to the controls at the concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 mu g/ml of ASA revealed that phagocytosis increased from 74.25 % to 80.3, 80.5 and 83.7 %, respectively. There was a statistically significant decrease of phagocytic activity of PMNL between the 500 mu g/ml of ASA and control group. In addition to this, the microbicidal activity increased at the dose of 50 mu g/ml of ASA (97.1 %). Whereas there was a decrease at doses of 250 (87.4 %) and 500 mu g/ml of ASA (87.3 %) compared with the control group (92.2 %). The results of the in vitro experiments showed that the function of bovine polymorphonuclear leucocytes was altered by different concentrations of acetylsalicylic acid.Öğe THE EFFECTS OF AFLATOXIN AND GLUCOMANNAN ON SOME ANTIOXIDANTS AND BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN RABBITS(VETERINARY FACULTY, UNIV BEOGRADU, 2008) Donmez, N.; Keskin, E.In this study the effects of aflatoxin added to the feed and the effects of glucomannan supplemented in order to prevent aflatoxin absorbtion on some biochemical parameters and antioxidants were studied in 40 New Zeland rabbits. The rabbits were randomly alloted to the following groups: control (C), glucomannan (G), glucomannan + aflatoxin (AG) and aflatoxin (A). At the end of the ten weeks trial MDA levels increased, GSH and SOD levels were decreased (p<0.05) in group A compared with control group levels. Cholesterol, glucose, albumin and total protein levels also decreased, AST and ALT levels were increased in group A compared with the control group. In the group G the former parameters were not affected by glucomannan application alone. On the other hand in the AG group MDA, GSH, SOD, cholesterol, glucose, albumin and total protein levels were higher, while AST and ALT levels were lower compared with the control levels, although these differences were not significant. In conclusion, the results determined in the study might be important to demonstrate the effects of aflatoxicosis on some biochemical and antioxidant parameters.Öğe Effects of Aflatoxin on Some Haematological Parameters and Protective Effectiveness of Esterified Glucomannan in Merino Rams(HINDAWI LTD, 2012) Donmez, Nurcan; Donmez, H. H.; Keskin, E.; Kisadere, I.The objective of the present study was to evaluate the toxic effects of aflatoxin on some hematological parameters and to determine the preventive effectiveness of added glucomannan. In the study, 32 Merino rams were used, and the rams were separated equally to four groups as control (C), glucomannan (G), glucomannan + aflatoxin (AG), and aflatoxin (A). Erythrocyte, leukocyte count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels were decreased in A group compared with the other groups, and there was a reduction in similar parameters in AG group compared to control values. On the other hand, these parameters were tended to increase in AG group compared to A group values. Aflatoxicosis caused the lymphocytopenia and monocytopenia but increased percentage of neutrophil counts. In conclusion, the results determined in the study might be important to demonstrate the effects of aflatoxicosis and glucomannan on some haematological parameters before the clinical symptoms appear.Öğe The effects of L-carnitine on some hematological parameters in rats fed a cholesterol-rich diet(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2014) Uluisik, D.; Keskin, E.We evaluated the effects of L-carnitine on the hematological characteristics of rats fed a cholesterol-rich diet. Healthy male Wistar Albino rats were assigned to four equal groups. During the 40 day experiment, group 1 was fed standard rat pellets, group 2 was fed standard rat pellets containing 7.5 % cholesterol powder, group 3 was fed standard rat pellets and water that contained 75 mg/l L-carnitine, and group 4 was fed standard rat pellets that contained 7.5% cholesterol and water that contained 75 mg/l L-carnitine. Blood samples were analyzed for red (RBC) and white (WBC) blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, granulocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, mean cell volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) using an automated cell counter. The RBC count in the group that received the 7.5% cholesterol diet was decreased significantly compared to the other groups. The hematocrit of the cholesterol group was lower than for the L-carnitine + cholesterol and L-carnitine groups. The MCV in the cholesterol group was significantly higher than the control group. The MCH in the cholesterol group was higher than for the other groups. There was no significant difference among the groups with regard to hemoglobin, MCHC, WBCs and leukocyte types. L-carnitine appears to have beneficial effects on erythrocyte stability, erythropoiesis and hyperlipidemia.Öğe Endoplasmic reticulum stress in case of hypothyroidism: focus on hippocampus and amygdala(WILEY-BLACKWELL, 2016) Kandir, S.; Keskin, E.[Abstract not Available]Öğe Investigation on Plasma Thiamine Concentration in Faunated and Defaunated Angora Goats(INDIAN VETERINARY JOURNAL, 2001) Şen, I.; Keskin, E.; Ok, M.; Eryavuz, A.[Abstract not Available]
