Öğe Determination of Antioxidant, Anticholinesterase, Tyrosinase Inhibitory Activities and Fatty Acid Profiles of 10 Anatolian Klasea Cass. Species(ACG PUBLICATIONS, 2016) Tel, Gulsen; Dogan, Bekir; Erol, Ebru; Ozturk, Mehmet; Nadeem, Said; Ullah, Zain; Duru, Mehmet EminIn search of new natural fatty acid sources, extract of 10 different Turkish Klasea species were studies. Fatty acids of Klasea species were studied by GC and GC-MSD. Oleic acid (4.8-45.8%), palmitic acid (15.6-51.8%), linoleic acid (0.3-45.5%), palmitoleic acid (0.8-28.4%) and linolenic acid (15.6-34.6%) were the main fatty acids elucidated. All extracts were also subjected to acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, beta-carotene-linoleic acid, DPPH center dot scavenging, CUPRAC and ferrous ion-chelating ability activities. Total flavonoid and phenolic contents were determined as quercetin and pyrocatechol equivalents. All extracts showed significant antioxidant activity in all tests, except hexane extracts of K. serratuloides and K. cerinthifolia that showed weak inhibition against BChE and AChE. The hexane extract of K. coriaceae and methanol extract of K. serratuloides exhibited notable tyrosinase inhibitory activity.Öğe Determination of normal lung volume using computed tomography in children and adolescents(2019) Caliskan, Emine; Ozturk, MehmetAim: To determine the normal reference values for both lung inspiratory volumes in children and adolescents with routine computed tomography (CT) and compare relationships with gender and age.Material and Methods: This retrospective study evaluated 100 cases (53 males, 47 females) with normal chest CT (age range: 4-17 years). The cases were divided into three subgroups based on age as 4-7 years (preschool; n31), 8-12 years (school-age; n30) and 13-17 years (adolescent; n39). Demographic data like sex and age were recorded. Right, left and total lung volumes were calculated with automatic volumetric software. Volume comparisons were made for lungs, gender and age groups. Statistical analysis used the Wilcoxon signed-ranks test, Mann-Whitney U test and Tamhane test. Results: For all cases the right lung volume was greater than the left lung (p0.001). There was no significant difference identified for the total lung volumes between the genders (p0.421). The right, left and total lung median volume values were identified as 379 cm3, 310 cm3 and 689 cm3 in the preschool group, 840 cm 3.710 cm3 and 1550 cm3 in the school-age group and 1670 cm3, 1391 cm3 and 3061 cm3 in the adolescent group, respectively. In the transitions from preschool to school-age and from school-age to adolescent periods, the right, left and total lung volumes significantly increased. Conclusion: Quantitative reference values for normal lung inspiratory volume were revealed for children and adolescents using CT. As age group increased, there were significant increases in lung volume. Gender did not have a significant effect on lung volume.Öğe Measurement of the distance and angle between the aorta and superior mesenteric artery and correlation to body-mass index in adolescents(CUKUROVA UNIV, FAC MEDICINE, 2018) Ozturk, Mehmet; Caliskan, Emine; Menzilcioglu, Mehmet Sait; Citil, SerdalPurpose: The aim of this study was to identify the variations in the angle and distance values between the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta with body mass index in healthy adolescents. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included a total of 246 adolescent cases; 121 girls and 125 boys. The aorta-mesenteric angle and distance measurements were completed on contrast abdominal computed tomography axial and reformatted sagittal images. Body mass index (kg/m(2)) was calculated. Results: Mean age was 162.8 and 163.8 months for girls and boys, respectively, with no difference identified. Mean body mass index values for girls and boys were 17.8 and 18.6 respectively, with no significant difference identified. The superior mesenteric artery angle, duodenal and left renal vein distance values were 41.1 degrees, 11.2 mm, and 8.2 mm for girls and 42.7 degrees, 12.6 mm and 9.2 mm for boys with no variation identified according to gender. In both genders and in all cases there was a positive correlation between body mass index with superior mesenteric artery angle, duodenal and left renal vein distances. Conclusion: In the healthy adolescent population, the aorta-mesenteric angle and distance measurements show positive correlation with body mass index. The values determined may be used as reference values for diagnosis of compression syndromes related to the mesenteric artery.Öğe Quantitative assessment of thyroid glands in healthy children with shear wave elastography(LIPPINCOTT WILLIAMS & WILKINS, 2019) Uysal, Emine; Ozturk, MehmetThe local shear wave speed (in meters per second) and Young modulus (in kilopascals) of normal thyroid glands were defined in healthy children to determine reference values. This prospective study assessed 107 pediatric cases (age interval, 3-17 years; mean, 9.37 +/- 3.68 years), including 52 boys and 55 girls. The study group included children without thyroid gland disease (autoimmune, infectious, or neoplastic). Data about the sex, age, weight, height, and body mass index (BMI) of the subjects were recorded for all subjects. Elasticity values were measured from 3 different sites in both thyroid lobes and averaged. Median values for elasticity and shear wave velocity measured in bilateral thyroid lobes were 6.38 +/- 1.97 kPa (range, 3.00-12.5 kPa) and 1.45 +/- 0.21 m/s (range, 1.03-2.04 m/s) on the right and 8.81 +/- 3.00 kPa (range, 3.80-22.6 kPa) and 1.69 +/- 0.26 m/s (range, 1.13-2.68 m/s) on the left. There was no significant difference between the elasticity values for the right and left thyroid lobes between boys and girls. There was a positive correlation between right thyroid lobe mean elasticity (in kilopascals) and shear wave velocity (in meters per second) values with age, BMI, and right thyroid lobe volume in the whole group. No significant correlation was found between left thyroid lobe mean elasticity (in kilopascals) and shear wave velocity (in meters per second) values with age, BMI, and left thyroid lobe volume in the study population. This study determined mean elasticity and shear wave velocity values for thyroid gland in healthy children. This information can be used as a baseline for the investigation of thyroid diseases.Öğe Spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality (sciwora) in infant(CUKUROVA UNIV, FAC MEDICINE, 2018) Saglik, Semih; Ozturk, Mehmet; Basar, IbrahimSCIWORA (spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality) is the myelopathy clinic that occurs without radiologically visible damage on direct radiography, computed tomography and myelography after trauma to the vertebral column. This article presents an infant case with SCIWORA to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of spinal cord injury.Öğe Tuberculous Arthritis in the Elbow Joint in an Adolescent(AVES PRESS LTD, 2018) Ozturk, Mehmet; Akatli, Aysenur; Sigirci, Ahmet; Akpolat, NusretMusculoskeletal system tuberculosis (TB) accounts for approximately 10% of all TB cases, excluding those involving pulmonary TB. Elbow TB is extremely rare and is seen in 2%-5% of musculoskeletal system cases. The diagnosis of TB arthritis is very difficult because its onset is insidious and progress is slow and there are nonspecific local and systemic symptoms. A delay in treatment can result in irreversible osteoarticular destruction. This paper presents the clinical and radiological findings of a 12-year-old adolescent patient with elbow TB arthritis.
