Öğe The cyberchondria severity scale (CSS): Validity and reliability study of the Turkish version(Kure Iletisim Grubu A.S., 2018) Selvi Y.; Turan S.G.; Sayin A.A.; Boysan M.; Kandeger A.Objective: Even though the internet is a valuable resource for medical information, it has the potential to increase anxiety, fear or obsessive-compulsive behaviours, particularly among individuals more prone to health related anxiety. Researchers have found that health anxiety, hypochondria, and online health searches are associated with increased anxious symptomatology. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Cyberchondria Severity Scale, a measure of online health anxiety. Method: Three hundred thirty-seven university students with an age range of 16-55 were included in the study. The Cyberchondria Severity Scale (CSS), Internet Addiction Test (IAT), Anxiety Sensitivity Inventory-3 (ASI-3), and Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI) were administered to participants. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that five-factor solution best fit to the data. The overall and subscales of the CSS had excellent internal consistency (Cronbach ? = 0.91, for the overall measure, and Cronbach ? values ranged from 0.78 to 0.87), with an exception of 'mistruct of medical professional' subscale (Cronbach ? = 0.64). The total and subscales of the CSS had generally good convergent validity. Conclusion: The CSS is a newly developed screening tool to assess online health anxiety, and present study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the scale had promising psychometric properties. © 2017 Springer Verlag. Although several studies have investigated the sleep quality and its causes in hemodialysis patients, there is no report available on dream anxiety in hemodialysis patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sleep quality and dream anxiety in hemodialysis patients. We also investigated related factors which influence sleep quality and dream anxiety. Fifty-Two hemodialysis patients and 38 healthy individuals were included in the present study. The sleep quality and dream anxiety were assessed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Van Dream Anxiety Scale (VDAS); respectively. The majority of hemodialysis patients had poor sleep quality (%92.3) in our study. Hemodialysis patients had significantly longer sleep latency, higher sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction than healthy individuals. Hemodialysis patients had higher global dream anxiety scores than healthy individuals. There was a negative relationship between hemoglobin levels and Global VDAS score. Global PSQI score was negative correlated with serum creatinine and phosphorus levels, while positive correlated with C-reactive protein levels. Our results suggest that hemodialysis patients had poor sleep quality, higher sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction compared with healthy subjects. Moreover, we demonstrated that dream anxiety was significantly higher in hemodialysis patients.Öğe Phenomenal self and dream self(Kure Iletisim Grubu A.S., 2017) Kara H.; Selvi Y.The concept of self is a complicated issue; however, a conceptualization of dream self even reflects a more complicated process. Various historical and contemporary approaches, which need reconciliation and refinement, exist toward the topic of the self; these approaches spread through a wide spectrum. On the one hand is the thought that self is fictional; on the other hand, self is considered a solid concept. Of these approaches, the phenomenological approach has its own unique place capturing the issue from a broader view. While this phenomenological view argues that self is the subject of the self’s experiences, it also emphasizes the accessibility of self through consciousness. A descriptive introspection might access the basic phenomenal characteristics of the self. The present article basically argues that there is a phenomenal self in dreams that can be accessed through consciousness and thus, dreams are basically personal experiences of the self. Research into the phenomenological similarities and differences between the awake and dreaming self might help to better understand subjectivity and consciousness. On the other hand, if there exists a phenomenal self in dreams, which can be accessed through consciousness psychological dream theories need a radical revision.Öğe Psychotropic drugs and sleep(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2017) Selvi Y.; Tekdemir R.; Aydin A.In humans, the cycle of sleep-wakefulness has a daily rhythm called the circadian rhythm. The effects of psychotropics on biological rhythmicity can occur via possible neurotransmitter and neuromediator mechanisms within a relatively short time period. On the other hand, hormonal or genetic mechanisms can impact long-term outcomes. In this review, the effects of frequently used psychotropic drugs on sleep are briefly reviewed. © 2017 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.Öğe Öğe Sleep disturbance among postpartum women(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2016) Aydin A.; Selvi Y.Sleep quality in women has been linked to changes in hormone levels due to the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause. Postpartum women are more likely to experience sleep disturbances than any non-postpartum women, with the most reporting exhaustion during the first 3 postpartum months. The most common reasons for sleep disturbances are related to newborn sleep and feeding patterns. A sudden drop in placental hormones following birth, as well as the unpredictable sleep patterns of the newborn, contributes to the postpartum woman’s poor sleep and alteration of her circadian rhythm. Complaints about excessive sleepiness, fatigue and sleep loss should be evaluated by health care providers, considering the fact that they are potentially harmful to the newborn and relationship with postpartum depression. They should be treated with proper pharmacologic and/or nonpharmacologic approaches. Pharmacologic ones to sleep disturbances should be viewed with caution during lactation because of the risk to infant development. © 2016 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. The subjects with and without VBS were compared using dissociative experiences scale (DES). The subjects with VBS had higher mean DES score and more frequent SMBs than those without VBS. These findings suggest that dissociation may be related to both daytime SMBs and violent behaviors during sleep in young population.Öğe Turkish version of Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ)(2007) Ağargün, Mehmet Yücel; Çilli, Ali Savaş; Boysan M.; Selvi Y.; Gulec M.; Kara H.The purpose of this study was to provide validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Morningness-Eeveningness Questionnaire (MEQ). The Turkish version of the scale was administered to the 171 healthy participants (87 men and 84 women) twice in different times. The internal consistency of the each question and total scores of the scale was examined by carrying out Cronbach's alpha statistic and Pearson correlation analysis. The test-retest reliability of the total MEQ scores was researched by applying dependent sample t-test and Pearson correlation analysis in two different application times. The reliability was satisfactory (Cronbach's alpha=0.81). Points of the questions were found significantly and positively correlated with the total point. There is not a significant change in two different application times. Internal consistency of the Turkish version was found high in the present study. The scale is adequate to distinguish "morning" and "evening" types in Turkish population.
