Öğe Selective Complexation of Hg2+ by Biscalix[4]arene Nitriles(Marcel Dekker Inc, 2000) Memon, Shahabuddın; Uysal, Gülderen; Yılmaz, MustafaIonophoric biscalix[4]arenyl nitriles in which the lower rims are linked via a single site on each calixarene were synthesized. Their complexing abilities were studied by the liquid-liquid extraction of alkali (Li+, Na+, K+, and Cs+) and selected transition metal (Cu2+, Co2+,Cd2+, Ni2+, and Hg2+) cations. We found a novel selectivity of these compounds toward Hg+2 cations through examination of the extraction.Öğe Synthesis and Binding Properties of Polymeric Calix[4]Arene Nitriles(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2001) Uysal, Gülderen; Memon, Shahabuddin; Yılmaz, MustafaTwo new polymers containing pendant calix[4]arene units with nitrile functionalities at their lower rim have been synthesized via radical initiated reactions involving a vinylic monomer 6 {15,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-25,26,27-tri-s(cyanomethoxy)-28-(2-acryloyloxy) ethoxycalix[4]arene} and with styrene. A five atom spacer group was incorporated between the bulky calixarene core and the acrylate moiety in border to minimize steric interactions which proved to impede the polymerization. The complexation studies were made by using liquid-liquid extraction procedures. It has been deduced from the observations that both polymers show a good selectivity towards Hg2+ like their precursor 5,11,17,23-tetra-tert-butyl-25,26,27-tricyanomethoxy-28-(2-hydroxy)ethoxycalix[4]arene 5, which supports their utility as adsorbents or potential candidate materials for fabricating membranes and sensors, which can separate or detect Hg2+ metal ions in a high selectivity.Öğe Synthesis and Complexation Studies of P-Tert-Butylcalix[4]Crown Telomers(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2001) Memon, Shahabuddin; Uysal, Gülderen; Yılmaz, MustafaTwo calixcrown ionophores (3a and 3b) and their telomers (6a and 6b) were synthesized, and it has been found that the conformation of the monomeric calixcrowns was not maintained in the polymeric chain. The binding properties of the telomers toward alkali (Li+, Na+, K+, Cs+) and selected transition metal cations (Ni+2, Cu+2, Co+2, Cd+2, Hg+2, Pb+2) was observed higher than those of monomeric analogs. It was suggested that this increased binding ability is due to the change of original cone conformation of the monomeric receptors into other various conformations in the polymeric skeleton.
