dc.description.abstract | Homocysteine, a product of methionine cycle, plays a role in obstetric and gynaecological diseases and these diseases are considered as a result of impaired methionine cycle (Obsweger et al., 1994). Estrogen is considered a nongenetic factor influencing homocysteine metabolism (Pines et al., 1997) Homocysteine levels can be a risk factor for arteriosclerosis and osteoporosis (El-Swefy et al., 2002). El-Swefy et al., (loc. cit) found that high homocysteine levels in ovariectomized rats decreased with estradiol and folic acid supplementation. The aim of this study was to investigate effect of replacement of estradiol, progesterone and melatonin on homocysteine levels in ovariectomized rats. | en_US |
