dc.description.abstractSelf-excited oscillations of elastically-mounted horizontal and vertical cylinders in presence of a free-surface are addressed for cases of very low mass-damping ratio. Selected modes of vortex formation are defined in terms of wholefield representations of the flow structure and related to the trajectory of the cylinder motion.en_US
